OpenAdapt vs UiPath
Choose UiPath if you're standardizing many automations on one platform, with a team to build and run them. Choose OpenAdapt for a few repeated entries into a system with no usable API, where each save should be read back and a mismatch should stop. Many teams could use both: UiPath for most work, OpenAdapt for those entries.

Where UiPath is stronger
- A mature, widely deployed platform with a long track record.
- Orchestrator: scheduling, work queues, credential vaults, role-based access and audit export.
- Published support for web, desktop, Citrix, SAP and APIs, with a large activity library.
- Self-hosted and air-gapped installs on upper tiers.
- A large partner, training and developer community.
Where OpenAdapt is different
- It reads the saved record back another way, where your system allows a second read, and says so when it can't.
- It stops on a mismatch or a look-alike record instead of guessing, and never retries a save it couldn't confirm.
- It runs on a computer you control, and the engine is MIT-licensed open source.
- In every run on this site, a normal run made 0 AI model calls.
Not differences: both can record a demonstration, find fields visually and repair a changed screen. Ask any vendor, including us, what reads the saved record back and what that read would miss.
One task, both ways: entering a claim with no API
With UiPath, your RPA team builds a workflow in Studio, runs it on a robot, and adds whatever checks they choose. The platform handles scheduling and queues.
With OpenAdapt, a staff member enters one claim while it records; we build the program and a read-back through your claims system's own data, and test it on test claims. In our openIMIS test it saved 5 of 6 synthetic claims and stopped before saving the one with a mistyped member number.
Which to choose
- Choose UiPath if you're building an automation program across the company, or already have UiPath licences and developers.
- Choose OpenAdapt if you have a few repeated entries where a wrong save is expensive, and no RPA team.
- Use both if UiPath runs most of your work and a few entries need a read-back and a stop.

Is OpenAdapt cheaper than UiPath?
They're priced differently. UiPath licenses a platform; we charge per workflow, including the build and upkeep. See Pricing.
Can OpenAdapt run inside Citrix?
Not tested in a real Citrix session yet. We've tested real remote desktop on our own app.

- OpenAdapt on openIMIS 25.10 (open-source insurance system), local test copy, 12 Oct 2026. A program learned from one demonstration entered 6 synthetic health-facility claims in one batch, with 0 AI model calls. 5 were saved; our test setup read each back through SQL and the openIMIS API, and 15 of 15 fields matched the claim document. On the 6th, the insured number had two digits swapped: openIMIS found no member, the screen no longer matched the demonstration, and the program stopped before saving (no claim was written). The engine labels the 5 saved runs "Finished, not checked", because this program has no record check of its own yet.
